This course is intended for those studying ceramics for the first time and is a comprehensive introduction to the craft of clay working. The primary emphasis is on studio work leading to a portfolio of finished pieces by the end of the semester. Both the functional and sculptural ceramic traditions will be explored. Each session includes on line demonstrations and will address issues of construction function and cover a variety of surface decoration. There is a course fee of 20 00. Ceramics 2 is designed for students who have completed ceramics i and want to perfect and refine their abilities in ceramics. Students will be able to recognize and describe common ceramic crystal structures. Students will produce ceramic art work using pinch slab and coil techniques.

The wheelwork is more rigorous and more challenging assignments are given.
