In this class students will explore the sculptural and design potential of functional ceramic forms. Students will learn a variety of hand built ceramic techniques beginning with traditional methods and moving toward current ceramic technologies. It is highly encouraged that students have previously taken a ceramics course and have the ability to center clay on a pottery wheel. Techniques will include wheel throwing alteration of thrown forms piecing parts to make complex or larger forms and creating hand built accoutrements.

Ceramics this course is intended as an overview of ceramic studio practices.

The goal of this course is to provide students with opportunities to concentrate on advanced wheel throwing techniques. A sequence of courses is offered throughout the year as part of evening and weekend studies which provide basic skills instruction in a variety of applications from sculptural to functional working with high and low fire clay bodies. Functional pottery will be emphasized with technical demonstrations based on utility.
